7Z Extractor
Open 7-Zip (.7z) archives in your browser without installing 7-Zip: list the files, extract one or all, including password-protected 7z.
Got a .7z file but no 7-Zip? 7-Zip archives are popular because they compress very well, but Macs, phones, tablets and Chromebooks can't open them without extra software. The 7Z Extractor opens them right in your browser: it lists every file and folder in the archive with its size, lets you filter the list, and extracts a single file or everything at once.
It uses libarchive, the widely used open-source archive library, compiled to WebAssembly, which reads 7z archives compressed with LZMA, LZMA2, BZIP2, Deflate and other common methods. Password-protected archives can be opened with their password. Your archive never leaves your device, and it is checked by content and against zip bombs before anything is extracted.
How to use 7Z Extractor
- Choose or drop a .7z file.
- Look through the files and folders, or filter by name.
- Enter the password if the archive is protected.
- Download one file, or Download all as ZIP.
Features
- Opens 7-Zip archives without installing 7-Zip.
- LZMA, LZMA2, BZIP2, Deflate and stored 7z archives.
- Lists files and folders with sizes; filter by name.
- Extract one file or all (as a ZIP that every computer opens).
- Password-protected archives (supported methods).
- Checks content, refuses zip bombs and unsafe paths; no upload.
Common uses
Software, drivers and game mods are often shared as .7z files because they come out smaller than ZIP. Photographers and designers use 7z to send large folders of images; developers use it for backups and log archives. With this page you can open such a file on any device: check what is inside before extracting, pull out just the one document you need from a large backup, or get everything at once as a ZIP that your computer opens without extra software. If you only need to send files, the ZIP Creator makes archives that every system can open.
Why “Download all” gives you a ZIP
Browsers save downloads one at a time and can't create folders on your disk, so saving hundreds of files separately would be slow and lose the folder structure. Download all extracts everything and puts it into a single ZIP file, without compression so it is created quickly. Every operating system can open ZIP files without extra software, so you get all your files with their folders, ready to use.
Limits
The archive is opened in your browser's memory, so very large archives depend on your device. These limits keep the browser responsive and protect against harmful archives.
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Archive size | Up to 1 GB |
| Total unpacked size | Up to 2 GB |
| Number of files | Up to 20,000 |
| Multi-volume archives (.7z.001, .7z.002…) | Not supported — join the parts first |
Encrypted archives
7-Zip can encrypt the files inside an archive with AES-256, and optionally the list of file names too. When the archive reports encrypted content, a password box appears; the password is used only in your browser. If the file names themselves are encrypted, or the encryption method isn't included in the browser build of libarchive, the archive can't be opened here — use 7-Zip, Keka or The Unarchiver on a computer instead.
Safe by design
Every file is checked by its content: if a ZIP or RAR file has been renamed to .7z, the extractor tells you which tool opens it. Archives whose declared size is far out of proportion to their own size are refused as possible zip bombs, and the real size of every extracted file is checked too. Paths are cleaned so that names such as ../../file or C:\ can't point outside the destination. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open a 7z file without 7-Zip?
Drop the .7z file here: the files are listed and you can download one or all of them, right in your browser.
Can I open 7z files on a Mac?
Yes. This tool works in Safari, Chrome and Firefox on a Mac without installing anything.
Is my archive uploaded?
No. It is opened in your browser and stays on your device.
Are password-protected 7z files supported?
Yes, when the file names are not encrypted and the method is supported. Enter the password when asked.
Why do I get a ZIP when I download everything?
Browsers can't save folders, so all files are packed into one ZIP that keeps the folder structure.
Can it open split archives (.7z.001)?
No. Join the parts with 7-Zip first, or ask the sender for a single file.
How big can the 7z file be?
Up to 1 GB, unpacking to at most 2 GB.
