Markdown to DOCX
Convert Markdown to a Word .docx document with real headings, lists, tables, links, quotes and code blocks. Live preview; no upload.
Write in Markdown, deliver in Word. Many people draft in Markdown because it is fast and distraction-free, but clients, managers, editors and legal teams usually want a Word document they can comment on and track changes in. This converter turns your Markdown into a properly structured .docx: headings use Word's Heading styles, lists are real numbered and bulleted lists, tables are Word tables, links stay clickable, and quotes and code blocks are formatted clearly.
Paste Markdown or open a .md file and a live preview shows the result as you type. GitHub-flavoured Markdown is supported, including tables and strikethrough; task-list items become ordinary list items. Press Download and open the file in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs. The conversion happens in your browser; your text is never uploaded.
How to use Markdown to DOCX
- Paste Markdown, open a .md file, or press Sample to try it.
- Check the live preview.
- Press Download Word (.docx).
- Open the document in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs and keep editing.
Features
- CommonMark and GitHub-flavoured Markdown.
- Headings become Word Heading styles, so the table of contents works.
- Numbered and bulleted lists, including nested lists.
- Tables, links, block quotes, inline code and code blocks.
- Bold, italic and strikethrough.
- Live preview while you type.
- Raw HTML in the Markdown is cleaned; runs in your browser, no upload.
From README to report
Typical uses: sending a project README or design document to someone who does not use Git, turning meeting notes written in Obsidian or a code editor into a document for the wider team, submitting an article to an editor who works in Word, and preparing a draft for review with tracked changes. Because the document uses Word's own styles, it can be restyled in seconds with Word's Design tab or your company template, and a table of contents can be inserted automatically from the headings.
What is converted
The converter supports the Markdown that people actually use in documents.
| Markdown | In the Word document |
|---|---|
| # to ###### headings | Heading 1 to Heading 6 styles |
| **bold**, *italic*, ~~strikethrough~~ | Bold, italic, strikethrough |
| - and 1. lists, indented for nesting | Bulleted and numbered Word lists |
| Pipe tables | Word tables with a header row |
| [text](address) links | Clickable hyperlinks |
| Lines starting with a quote marker | Quote style |
| Inline code and fenced code blocks | Monospace text and blocks |
| Horizontal rules | A horizontal line |
| Images with data URIs | Pictures in the document |
Images and raw HTML
Images embedded as data URIs are placed in the document. Images that point to files on your computer or on other websites cannot be read by the browser from this page, so they are skipped; insert them in Word afterwards, or embed them first. HTML written inside the Markdown is allowed and converted where it maps onto Word, but anything that could run code — scripts, frames, forms, javascript links — is removed before the preview and the conversion.
Private and dependable
The Markdown is parsed with marked and the Word file is created with docx, two widely used open-source libraries, entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so internal notes, drafts and unpublished articles stay with you. The preview runs in a sandboxed frame that cannot run code or load anything from the internet, so what you see is exactly what is converted. Fonts and page layout follow Word's defaults, which you can change in Word after downloading.
