Video Speed Changer
Speed up or slow down a video from 0.25× to 4×, keeping the voice pitch natural or not, or without sound. In your browser, no upload.
Choose a video, pick a speed from 0.25× to 4× and save the result. Speed up a long recording, a cooking clip or a time-lapse, or slow down a sports move or a funny moment. The preview plays at the chosen speed so you can try it first.
The sound can keep its natural pitch, so voices still sound normal when faster or slower, or change pitch with the speed like an old tape, or be removed. The new video is created in your browser and never uploaded.
How to use Video Speed Changer
- Choose or drop the video.
- Pick a speed, for example 2× faster or 0.5× slower, and check the preview.
- Choose what happens to the sound: keep the pitch, change it, or remove it.
- Press Change speed and download the new video.
Features
- Any speed from 0.25× to 4×
- Sound with natural pitch, tape-style pitch, or no sound
- Preview at the chosen speed
- Keeps the original size and frame rate
- MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV in; MP4 (or WebM) out
- Runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded
Speed and length
The new length is the original length divided by the speed. A one-minute video becomes 30 seconds at 2× and two minutes at 0.5×.
| Speed | 1-minute video becomes | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 0.25× | 4:00 | Strong slow motion |
| 0.5× | 2:00 | Slow motion, tutorials |
| 0.75× | 1:20 | Following fast speech or steps |
| 1.5× | 0:40 | Lectures, meetings |
| 2× | 0:30 | Long recordings, cooking, crafts |
| 4× | 0:15 | Time-lapse style |
Keeping voices natural
Simply playing sound faster raises its pitch, which makes voices sound like cartoons, and slowing it down makes them deep. With Keep the pitch the tool uses a time-stretch method (WSOLA) that removes or repeats tiny slices of sound so the speed changes but the pitch does not. It works best between about 0.5× and 2×; at the extremes some echo or roughness is normal. Choose Change pitch with speed for the classic chipmunk or slow-motion effect, or Remove sound for a silent clip.
Smoothness and frame rate
When speeding up, the video keeps its original frame rate by skipping frames, so a 30 frames-per-second video stays at 30 frames per second and the file does not grow. When slowing down, each frame is shown for longer. Slow motion therefore looks smoothest with videos filmed at a high frame rate, such as the 120 or 240 fps slow-motion mode of many phones.
Quality and privacy
The video is re-encoded at high quality with your browser's built-in encoder, using H.264 and AAC in an MP4 file where available. Long or 4K videos take some time, depending on your device; you can follow the progress and cancel at any time. Nothing is uploaded: the whole job runs on your own computer or phone.
Ideas for faster and slower videos
Speeding up turns long, slow processes into short clips people will actually watch: a drawing, a cooking recipe, a room makeover, a build, a drive or a sunset. Recorded lectures, webinars and meetings are easier to review at 1.25× or 1.5× with the pitch kept natural. Slowing down is useful to study a golf swing, a cricket shot, a dance step or a fast trick, or to make a dramatic moment last longer. For social media, 2× clips of everyday tasks and 0.5× clips of splashes, jumps and laughs are popular. Combine the tool with the Video Cutter to change the speed of just one part: cut it out, change its speed here, and join the parts again with the Video Merger.
Frequently asked questions
How do I speed up a video 2×?
Choose the video, press 2× and then Change speed. The new video is half as long.
Will the voices sound like chipmunks?
Not with Keep the pitch, which changes the speed without changing the pitch. Choose Change pitch with speed if you want that effect.
What speeds are possible?
From 0.25× (four times slower) to 4× (four times faster), in steps of 0.05.
Does it reduce quality?
The video is re-encoded at high quality, so the difference is very small. The size and frame rate stay the same.
Can I make a slow-motion video?
Yes, choose 0.5× or 0.25×. It looks smoothest with videos filmed at a high frame rate.
Is my video uploaded?
No. It is processed in your browser.
