Fill PDF Form

Fill in a PDF form online: text boxes, check boxes, radio buttons and lists, then save the filled PDF, optionally flattened. No upload.

Open a fillable PDF form and its fields appear as a simple web form: text boxes, multi-line boxes, check boxes, radio buttons, drop-down lists and list boxes, with any answers already in the file. Type your answers, then save the filled PDF. It opens with your answers in any PDF reader, and can still be edited later, or you can flatten it so the answers become a fixed part of the page.

Government applications, bank and insurance forms, school and job forms are often sent as fillable PDFs. This tool fills them without installing anything, and the form never leaves your device, which matters for forms full of personal details.

How to use Fill PDF Form

  1. Choose or drop the PDF form.
  2. Fill in the fields shown; use Find a field on long forms.
  3. Tick Flatten if the answers should not be changed afterwards.
  4. Save the filled PDF.

Features

  • Text, multi-line, check box, radio, drop-down and list fields
  • Existing answers are loaded and can be changed
  • Optional flattening
  • Field search for long forms
  • Read-only and required fields are marked
  • Runs in your browser; the form is never uploaded

Which PDFs can be filled?

The tool fills PDFs with interactive form fields, known as AcroForms, which is how most fillable PDFs are made. You can tell a PDF is fillable when your PDF reader highlights boxes you can click and type in.

Kind of PDFWhat happens
Fillable PDF form (AcroForm)All fields are shown and filled
Form with both AcroForm and XFAFilled; the XFA copy is removed so every reader shows your answers
Dynamic XFA form (Adobe LiveCycle)Cannot be filled here; open it in Adobe Acrobat or Reader
Scanned or flat PDF with no fieldsNo fields: use the Annotate PDF tool to type on it

Flattening

A filled form can still be changed by anyone who opens it. Flattening turns each answer into ordinary text on the page and removes the fields, so the form looks the same everywhere and the answers can no longer be edited. Flatten the copy you send if the receiver should not change it, and keep an unflattened copy if you may need to correct something later. Some offices ask for unflattened forms so their systems can read the fields; follow their instructions.

Letters and languages

The answers are written with the standard PDF font, which supports English and Western European letters with accents. Characters outside it, such as Devanagari, Chinese or emoji, can't be shown in the field and the tool tells you which fields contain them. Signature fields and buttons are not filled; use the Sign PDF tool to add a signature.

Privacy

Forms often contain names, addresses, ID numbers, bank details and health information. The PDF is opened and saved by your own browser and is never sent to a server, so your answers stay on your device. Close the tab when you are done on a shared computer.

Tips for filling official forms

Read the instructions that come with the form before you start, and check whether dates must be written as DD/MM/YYYY or another format, whether names should be in capital letters, and which fields are mandatory; required fields are marked with a star where the form says so. Fields with a set number of boxes, such as PIN codes, account numbers or PAN, often limit how many characters you can type. Save the filled PDF and open it in your usual PDF reader to check that every answer appears where it should before you print, sign or send it. Keep a copy of the filled form for your records, and use the Merge PDF tool if you need to attach supporting documents to it as one file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I fill a PDF form without Adobe?

Open the form here, type your answers in the fields shown and save the filled PDF. No installation is needed.

Why does it say my PDF has no fillable fields?

The PDF is flat, often a scan. Use the Annotate PDF tool to place text on the page instead.

Can I edit the answers later?

Yes, unless you flatten the PDF. Open the saved file here again to change answers.

What does flatten mean?

The answers become ordinary page content and the fields are removed, so nobody can change them.

Can I sign the form?

Signature fields are not filled here. Use the Sign PDF tool after filling the form.

Is my form uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.
