Image Cropper
Crop images free-hand or to 1:1, 4:5, 16:9 and other ratios, with exact pixels, rotate and flip. JPG, PNG, WebP; batch. Private.
Cut a photo down to the part that matters. Choose an image, drag the frame or its corners to select the area, and download the result in the same format. Lock the frame to a ratio for social media, such as 1:1 for a profile picture, 4:5 for an Instagram post or 9:16 for a story, or type the exact position and size in pixels. Rotate and flip the picture in the same step, and optionally resize the result, for example to 1080 × 1080.
Crop several pictures at once: the same crop is applied to each one, scaled to its size, and all of them download together as a ZIP. Everything happens in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded, and nothing is lost in quality except what you cut away.
How to use Image Cropper
- Choose, drop or paste one or more images (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF).
- Pick an aspect ratio or Free, then drag the frame and its handles; or type X, Y, width and height.
- Rotate or flip if needed, and turn on Resize the result for an exact output size.
- Click Download — several images download as one ZIP.
Features
- Free cropping or locked ratios: 1:1, 4:5, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:2, 2:3 and custom.
- Exact X, Y, width and height in pixels.
- Rotate 90° left or right, flip horizontally or vertically.
- Optional output size, e.g. 1080 × 1080 for Instagram.
- Rule-of-thirds grid while you crop.
- Keyboard control: arrow keys move the frame, Alt + arrows resize it.
- Keeps the format: JPG stays JPG, PNG keeps transparency.
- Batch cropping with one ZIP download; nothing is uploaded.
Common sizes and ratios
Social networks and websites display pictures in fixed shapes. Cropping to the right ratio yourself stops them cutting off heads or text.
| Use | Ratio | Typical size in pixels |
|---|---|---|
| Profile picture, Instagram square post | 1:1 | 1080 × 1080 |
| Instagram portrait post | 4:5 | 1080 × 1350 |
| Instagram / TikTok story, Reels, Shorts | 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 |
| YouTube thumbnail, widescreen, presentations | 16:9 | 1280 × 720 or 1920 × 1080 |
| Classic photo print 6 × 4 in | 3:2 | 1800 × 1200 at 300 dpi |
| Passport-style portrait | 2:3 or 35 × 45 mm | depends on the country |
Cropping tips
Use the rule-of-thirds grid: placing the subject or the horizon on one of the lines usually looks better than the dead centre. Leave a little space in the direction a person looks or moves. Crop before resizing, and crop as little as you can if you need a large print, because every pixel you cut away is gone. To straighten a tilted horizon, use the Image Rotator first, which can rotate by any angle.
Quality and formats
Cropping itself does not reduce the quality of the pixels you keep. JPG and WebP files are saved again at high quality (92), so the file size may change slightly; PNG files are saved without any loss and keep their transparency. GIF, BMP and AVIF pictures are saved as PNG. The photo's orientation is applied automatically, so pictures from phones appear the right way up, and the hidden metadata, including the location, is not copied into the cropped file.
Cropping many images the same way
When you choose several pictures, you set the crop on the first one and it is applied to the others at the same relative position and size. This works best for a series of pictures with the same dimensions, such as screenshots or product photos taken with the same setup. All results download together as one ZIP file.
Frequently asked questions
How do I crop an image to a square?
Choose 1:1 Square, drag the frame to the part you want and click Download. Turn on Resize the result for an exact size such as 1080 × 1080.
Is the image cropper free and private?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and your images are processed in your browser without being uploaded.
Does cropping reduce quality?
No, the pixels you keep are unchanged. JPG and WebP are saved again at high quality; PNG is saved without loss.
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
Yes. Type the X, Y, width and height of the area, and optionally the size of the result.
Can I crop several images at once?
Yes. Choose several images; the same crop is applied to each and they download as a ZIP.
Can I crop HEIC photos from an iPhone?
Convert them first with HEIC to JPG, then crop the JPG here.
Does it keep transparency?
Yes for PNG and WebP. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white.
