AVIF to JPG
Convert AVIF images to JPG (or PNG with transparency) in your browser — one image or a batch, with quality control. No upload.
AVIF is a modern image format that makes pictures much smaller than JPG at the same quality, so more and more websites and phones use it. But many apps, older programs, upload forms and printers still don't accept AVIF files. The AVIF to JPG converter turns them into JPG images that open everywhere — or into PNG if you need to keep transparent areas.
Drop one AVIF image or a whole batch, choose the JPG quality and the colour for any transparent background, and download the results one by one or together as a ZIP. Your browser decodes the AVIF and MozJPEG, an advanced JPEG encoder, creates high-quality JPG files. Everything happens on your device; your images are never uploaded.
How to use AVIF to JPG
- Choose or drop AVIF images.
- Keep JPG, or choose PNG to keep transparency.
- Adjust the JPG quality and background colour if needed.
- Download each JPG, or all of them as a ZIP.
Features
- AVIF to JPG with a quality slider (30–100).
- AVIF to PNG to keep transparency.
- Background colour for transparent areas in JPG.
- Batch conversion and ZIP download.
- Files checked by content — only real AVIF images are converted.
- Runs in your browser with MozJPEG: no upload.
Where AVIF files come from
You often get AVIF files without choosing them: images saved from websites that serve AVIF to save bandwidth, pictures downloaded from social networks and shops, screenshots from some Android phones, and photos exported by newer camera and editing apps. When such a file is rejected by an upload form, a messaging app, an older version of Windows or Office, or a print shop, converting it to JPG is the quickest fix. The JPG keeps the same width and height as the AVIF and opens everywhere.
Why convert AVIF?
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) compresses images about half as large as JPG at similar quality and supports transparency and high dynamic range. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can display it. JPG remains the universal format, though, so converting is the easiest way to use AVIF pictures in places that don't support them yet.
| You want to | Choose |
|---|---|
| Upload to a site or app that refuses AVIF | JPG, quality 85–90 |
| Print or edit in older software | JPG, quality 90–95 |
| Keep a transparent background (logos, stickers) | PNG |
| Make a smaller file for your own website | Keep AVIF, or use the Image Compressor for WebP |
Quality and file size
Because AVIF is so efficient, the JPG version is usually larger than the AVIF it came from — that's expected, not a mistake. A quality of 90 keeps the picture visually identical for most photos; lower values make smaller files with slightly softer detail. Converting can't restore detail the AVIF compression removed, so the JPG will look exactly like the AVIF did, not better. PNG is lossless and keeps every pixel, but it is much larger for photos.
Transparent backgrounds
Some AVIF images, such as logos and product cut-outs, have transparent areas. JPG can't store transparency, so those areas are filled with the background colour you choose — white by default, which suits most documents and marketplaces. If you need the transparency, choose PNG instead; it keeps the transparent areas exactly.
Private and safe
Each file is checked by its content: an image that only has an .avif name but is really a JPG or PNG is refused with a message, and you can convert it with the Image Converter instead. Very large images that would exhaust the browser's memory are refused before decoding. Nothing is uploaded or stored, there is no watermark and no limit on how many images you convert.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert AVIF to JPG?
Drop the AVIF image, keep JPG selected and download the converted file.
Why is the JPG bigger than the AVIF?
AVIF compresses much better than JPG, so the same picture needs more space as a JPG.
Can I convert many AVIF files at once?
Yes. Drop them all and download the results as a ZIP.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser.
How do I keep a transparent background?
Choose PNG instead of JPG.
Which quality should I use?
90 for photos you want to keep looking perfect; 75–85 for smaller files for sharing.
Can I convert other formats?
Use the Image Converter for JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and HEIC.
