QR Code Scanner
Scan QR codes with your camera or from a photo or screenshot. See links, Wi-Fi passwords, UPI payments and contacts safely. No upload.
Scan a QR code with your phone or laptop camera, or read it from a photo or screenshot you already have: choose the image, drop it here or paste it with Ctrl+V. The scanner finds every code in the picture, outlines it, and explains what it contains in plain words, with buttons to copy, open or save.
It understands the common kinds of QR code: website links, Wi-Fi networks with their password, UPI payment requests, contact cards, e-mail, phone numbers, text messages, map locations and calendar events. Links are shown with their website name first, so you can check them before opening. Nothing is uploaded, and no app is needed.
How to use QR Code Scanner
- Choose Photo or screenshot, or Camera.
- Choose, drop or paste the image, or start the camera and point it at the code.
- Read what the code contains.
- Copy the text, open the link, or save the contact or event.
Features
- Scan with the camera or from an image
- Paste a screenshot directly with Ctrl+V
- Finds several codes in one picture
- Explains links, Wi-Fi, UPI, contacts, e-mail, SMS, places and events
- Also reads Micro QR, Data Matrix and Aztec codes
- Runs on your device; nothing is uploaded
Scanning a QR code from a screenshot
A QR code on your own screen can't be scanned with the same phone's camera. Take a screenshot instead and open it here, or on a computer press Print Screen or use the snipping tool and paste the picture with Ctrl+V. The scanner reads codes even when they are small, rotated or white on black, as long as the code is sharp and complete.
What a QR code can contain
A QR code is just text, but some kinds of text follow a pattern that phones understand.
| Kind | Starts with | What the scanner shows |
|---|---|---|
| Website link | https:// | Website name and the full address |
| Wi-Fi network | WIFI: | Network name, password and security |
| UPI payment | upi://pay | UPI ID, name, amount and note |
| Contact | BEGIN:VCARD or MECARD: | Name, phone, e-mail; save as .vcf |
| mailto: or MATMSG: | Address, subject and message | |
| Phone or SMS | tel: or SMSTO: | Number and message |
| Location | geo: | Coordinates and a map link |
| Event | BEGIN:VEVENT | Title, time and place; save as .ics |
Staying safe with QR codes
Criminals stick fake QR codes on parking meters, posters and restaurant tables, or send them by message, to lead people to fake payment or login pages. Before opening a link, check that the website name is the one you expect. For UPI codes, remember that you never need to scan a code or enter your UPI PIN to receive money; a code that asks you to do that to get a refund or a prize is a scam. This scanner never opens anything by itself.
Camera tips
Allow the camera when the browser asks. Hold the code about 15 to 30 cm away, inside the frame, with good light and no glare. On phones the back camera is used; on a laptop, choose another camera from the list if you have several. Turn on Keep scanning to read several codes one after another. The camera picture is processed on your device and nothing is recorded.
When a code will not scan
Most failures come from the picture rather than the code. Make sure the whole code is visible, including the quiet white border around it, and that it is in focus; move the camera back a little if it cannot focus close up. Avoid glare from glossy paper or screens by tilting the code slightly, and add light in dark rooms. Very small or blurry codes in screenshots can be enlarged before saving. Damaged or partly covered codes can often still be read, because QR codes contain extra error-correction data. If a code still cannot be read, it may be a different kind of code, such as a barcode on a product, which needs a barcode scanner instead.
